/

Recently, we introduced the issue of embracing God’s financial principles. We highlighted that God has something to say with regards to our money. So, today we will look at the first principle, which is stewardship. Our scriptural reading will be taken from Matthew 25:14-17. But on your spare time you can read the whole parable. The portion of scripture is an illustration on the fact that we are managers or caretakers of what God has given to us. Therefore, we shall give an account to God at the end of time. So, let us dive in more.

1.1 Stewardship

Stewardship is the practice of managing and taking care of resources entrusted to us. In a financial context, stewardship refers to the responsible management of money and assets. It involves making wise decisions, budgeting effectively, and prioritizing needs over wants. Stewardship also includes the idea of giving back to others and using financial resources to make a positive impact in the world. Ultimately, practicing good stewardship allows individuals to not only achieve personal financial success but also contribute to the greater good and leave a lasting legacy.

Ways in which we are stewards of God's resources include taking care of the environment, using our talents and abilities to serve others, and being responsible with the financial blessings we have been given.

1.3 Importance of managing finances responsibly

The importance of managing finances responsibly cannot be overstated. When we are good stewards of our finances, we are able to meet our needs, provide for our families, and have the ability to help others in need. It also allows us to avoid unnecessary debt and financial stress, leading to a more peaceful and secure life. By making wise financial decisions, such as budgeting, saving, and investing wisely, we can ensure that we are using our resources in a way that honors God and benefits ourselves and those around us.

1.4 Biblical passages and teachings that emphasize stewardship

Biblical passages and teachings that emphasize stewardship include Matthew 25:14–30, where Jesus tells the parable of the talents, highlighting the importance of using our resources wisely and being accountable for them. Another example is 1 Timothy 6:17–19, which encourages believers to be generous and willing to share their wealth with others, recognizing that everything we have ultimately belongs to God. These passages remind us that stewardship is not just about managing our finances but also about using our time, talents, and resources to serve God and others who are in need, including improving our communities.
